Joshua 21:43-45: “And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.”

Everything that God had promised the fathers He gave to the children of Israel. Not one promise did He fail to keep. All came to pass!

In James 1:17 it says: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Our heavenly Father changes not. He is the same yesterday, today, and for all eternity. Every good thing that He gave to the house of Israel came down from the Father of lights, and every good thing that He gives us comes down from the Father of lights. There is no variableness, no shadow of turning. Everything that God promises, He fulfills. But, it is not always in our timing. I am sure the house of Israel wondered if they were ever going to get their inheritance. They were in Egypt for 430 years. They wandered around in the wilderness for 40 years, and then it took them seven years to conquer the land. But, God was faithful to keep His promise and it all came to pass! Therefore, I want to remind you of some of the promises God has made to us and make no mistake, they also will come to pass! He is the same God. He has not changed.

First, He cares for us. Psalm 37:23-28 tells us: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.” My friend, we are preserved forever! God cares about us. We are His. He bought us with the price of His blood on Calvary’s cross. Jesus said in Hebrews 13:5: “…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” We are to cast all of our cares upon Him.

Secondly, God will chastise us. He loves us enough to spank us from time to time when we mess up. He wants to keep us on the right track. In Joshua chapter 23, Joshua is about to die, and here is what he tells the children of Israel in verses 15 & 16: “Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.” Joshua was warning them. God gave them the land, and He could just as easily take it away from them, which God did when they turned from Him. They never ceased being His children, nor His chosen people; they just lost their land. They lost their blessing. Child of God, we will never stop being His child; but we can sure lose our blessings. All of God’s promises will come to pass whether they be good things or chastisements. Those He loves, He chastises (Hebrews 12: 5-11).
