From July 26 to August 11, the Summer Olympics took place in Paris, France. An estimated 10,500 athletes from 206 countries competed in hundreds of events, aiming to win medals and bring pride to their nations. However, alongside them, another group was in Paris with a different purpose. For three weeks, a team of believers from various states and churches (including many BCMN churches) participated in Project Paris 2024, with one mission: “As the world comes to Paris, we will be there to share Christ with the world.”
We created a Gospel tract with a QR code that led to a website sharing the Gospel in many different languages. Every day, thousands of these tracts were distributed on the streets of Paris, outside Olympic venues and popular tourist sites. Digital marketing and advertising through Facebook were also utilized to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel via social media.
Many of you contributed financially and prayed for Project Paris 2024, and we are thrilled to share that it was a tremendous success! So much happened over those three weeks that it’s difficult to capture everything in one summary (there will be more updates with stories from those who participated). But I’d like to share some key numbers to provide perspective on the effort and resources required for Project Paris 2024, as well as the fruits of our labor and your investment in the Gospel.
- 6,884,277 — The number of people reached through social media during our campaign. This includes people in Paris and around the world who encountered our Facebook page, saw our digital ads, viewed a post, or liked and commented on our page.
- $275,222 — The total cost of making Project Paris 2024 a reality. This figure includes the expenses for the 65 individuals who traveled to Paris to take part in our outreach, the printing of our Gospel tracts, and digital outreach and advertising. None of this would have been possible without the generosity and support of many BCMN pastors and churches!
- Nearly 50,000 Gospel tracts were distributed during the Olympics. Each day, two teams were on the streets of Paris from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, sharing the hope of Jesus and handing out Gospel tracts to as many people as possible.
- 13,000+ visitors accessed our website, which shares the Gospel in multiple languages, helps connect people to Bible-preaching churches in their countries, and provides access to the Bible. It was especially encouraging to see the website accessed via QR codes in countries like Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. This means that someone who received a tract in Paris kept it, took it home, and wanted to learn more about Christ!
- 95 countries — We didn’t just hand out tracts to people passing by; our goal was to engage people in conversations, learn where they were from, and share the Gospel with them. To our knowledge, we shared Gospel tracts with people from 95 different countries. This is particularly exciting because many of these countries are places where we could not openly send missionaries to share the Gospel. However, as people from countries like Afghanistan and North Korea came to France, we were able to share the Gospel with them. Below is a list of the countries where someone received a tract:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Australia, Belgium, Benin, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Colombia, Comoros Islands, Congo, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, England, Eritrea, Estonia, France, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guam, Guinea, Guatemala, Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Macedonia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, New Zealand, New Guinea, Niger, North Korea, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, Serbia, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, South Sudan, Spain, St. Kitts, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad, Tunisia, Ukraine, United States, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, West Indies, Yemen. - One soul came to Christ on the streets of Paris. In the third week, one of our team members spoke with a young man from the Congo who was in Paris for college. They had a conversation about the Gospel and salvation through Christ alone, and right there on the streets of Paris, that young man prayed to accept Christ as his Savior!
We may never fully know the impact of Project Paris 2024 on this side of heaven. However, we know that God’s word does not return void. Tens of thousands of people received tracts, hundreds of Gospel conversations were had, and many people visited our website to learn more about Jesus. We are praying and trusting God for the increase.
Thank you again to everyone who gave to make this possible. It’s incredible what we can accomplish when we come together. Project Paris 2024 was a significant undertaking, but it wasn’t organized by a large organization with unlimited resources. Instead, it started with a big goal and a deep burden shared by a small group of people who knew it would require a lot of faith and partners to pull it off. Missionaries Jonathan Laase, Randy Lasse, and Brian Berry along with Bob Hutton, Missions Pastor at Canton Baptist Temple, Sue Hoffman, Missions Secretary at Canton Baptist Temple, Ben Roy, a Bible college student, and Lewis McClendon with the BCMN worked for two years to put this evangelistic outreach together. And then God provided your help! While this outreach event is over, we know that much work remains to fulfill the Great Commission, and we are thankful that God allowed us to play a small part in His plan to reach the nations during Project Paris 2024.
Thank you to the leadership team for all your hard work you put into making this outreach possible! It was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside you in reaching the world with the gospel at the Paris 2024 Olympics!
